MEDICAL RETINA AND UVEA FELLOWSHIP

The objective of this fellowship is to expose the candidate to the basic understanding of the various retinal disorders and to familiarize the candidate with the various examination techniques like slit lamp biomicroscopy, indirect ophthalmoscopy and indentation.

Fellows at SuVi Eye Hospital will will participate in the evaluation and management of patients with medical retinal disorders such as Age-related Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, retinal vascular disorders, central serous retinopathy, ocular inflammation, retinal degeneration.

Fellowship programme in Uveitis provides advanced training in the diagnosis and management of infectious and non-infectious uveitis as well as other ocular inflammatory diseases.

Retina and Uvea clinics at SuVi Eye Hospital are well-equipped with state- of-the-art instruments that are used in the examination of the patients as well as tools that are employed in the diagnosis and monitoring of the patients, including advanced optical coherence tomography/OCT, fundus photography, B-scan Ultrasonography, fundus autofluoroscence and fundus fluorescein angiography.

Fellows will gain extensive experience in all types of laser photocoagulation of retina (Barrage, PRP and focal) both by slit lamp delivery systems and Laser Indirect Ophthalmoscopy (LIO) mode.

Fellows will gain enough expertise and hands on in the technique and administration of all types of intravitreal drugs.

To ensure that the Fellow can exert his/her independent thinking and demonstrate the learning process as the fellowship progresses - the Fellow will be asked to make independent assessments of the patients and generate diagnoses and therapeutic plans initially. He/she will then join the faculty to confirm the findings and solidify the plans before final application to the patient care.

The fellows are expected to handle and manage retina and comprehensive ophthalmology OPD independently in the absence of their mentors and consultants.

The training programme also kindles the scientific temperament of the candidates, by way of active academic debates, journal clubs, clinical research publications and fellows are encouraged to attend and participate in the numerous discussions, seminars, lectures, and other educational events.

They will also have the opportunity to present their research work in conferences and various state and national level webinars and CME’S.
